THE SHERLOCK HOLMES
PIPE CLUB OF BOSTON
Keeping The Smoking Lamp Lit Since 1989
Hope everyone is enjoying the crisp weather. I for one notice at this time of the year I find myself with a pipe more often than in the warmer weather. I also adjust my tobacco selection to something a bit richer and more flavorful to get me through the effects of the clocks being turned back and the dreary early darkness. I don’t prefer to leave my house and run appointments after it gets dark, I prefer to work remotely as much as possible, briar clenched and filled with a dark flake or good aromatic to fill my home office with a luxurious aroma.
Our in-person October meeting has proved to be a success. We practiced safe protocols and it was agreed to continue meeting at the club until it is decided or recommended otherwise.
Most of our business has been put on hold until further notice and we have learned that the holiday event with Kaywoodie will also not take place this year. As for our own, we need to discuss the particulars at the November meeting.
Due to the fact that our next meeting is scheduled on Election Day we have decided to move the meeting to the following Tuesday, November 10th. Please remember to get out and vote! Most importantly please govern yourself and keep religion and politics OUT OF THE CLUB. In perfect circumstances we gather 12 times a year. It should be a time to relax with friends and enjoy each other’s company as well as a good bowl or two.
For those who I may not see at the meeting I wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving and be sure to thank a Veteran for their service. In honor of our Veterans all those who smoke an American made pipe at the next meeting will receive and extra ticket for the Presidents raffle. -- Peace and Good Health - Kevin
Riverville Murder - Chapter 20 & 21
No sooner than he entered BPD Headquarters, than Captain Callan stepped up and shuffled him aside saying, “Do you have the reports? I’m kind of anxious to see them.”
“Yes, naturally, but the chief gets them first. I’ve tagged a set for you and the chief will pass them on if he wishes,” Scott replied, somewhat aggravated.
Before they passed through the double doors to the office area, Scott noticed Sergeant Mark Simmons had been watching through one of the door windows. As their eyes met, Simmons frowned deeply and gave a negative shake of his head that was almost imperceptible.
Upon leaving, Scott again found Simmons standing in the hall, obviously waiting for him, and said, “Is there something you want, Sergeant?”
Yes, sir, I’ll walk you out – can’t talk here.”
“OK. My car is waiting. You walk down the block and turn the corner. We’ll pick you up.”
