President's Message
Hi All,
March is already upon us and before you know it the days will be getting a bit warmer and the nights a bit shorter. What a great time to get outside and smoke your pipes.
Don't forget, March is club officer nominations month and in April we will have elections along with dinner provided by the club.
A couple of exciting things have happened since the last time we met. Tom Nyzio and I visited the “Hartford Reading Society” in essence it’s just an eloquent way to say, “Hartford Pipe Club”. We grabbed dinner at the local brew pup with OX and Meghan. A short walk after and we entered The Tobacco Shop on Pratt Street. There is a well-appointed back room where they meet. The meetings are informal, and we had a great time meeting a couple other members Tony Mann and Thom Knox. We wrapped the night up with an invite to The Humidor for IPSD as well as opened a discussion to make them an associate club.
The following Saturday on the 19th a generous group met at the Humidor in honor of IPSD. Their new location proved to be an excellent venue for the festivities not to mention the discounts on tobacco and pipes. Four members from Hartford joined us as well. There was a lot of interest in the club from regular patrons of the store and Jana mentioned to me that she is considering starting an associate club there to maybe meet on the first Monday of the month. Like I said there was a lot of interest but, most would not be interested in the drive up to Sharon. So, I hope to discuss the possibilities when we meet on Tuesday.
I am sure you may have seen this coming but in Honor of Tim Hynick and not the little green man. All those who bring and smoke a Peterson at the meeting will get a chance for the Presidents Raffle.
Peace, Kevin
This work tells the history of smoking in England from the social point of view. Thus it does not deal with the history of tobacco growing or tobacco related manufacture, but is rather the story of how smoking has fitted in with the fashions and customs throughout the ages, and the changes in the attitude of society towards smoking. (Summary by Maikki)
We will add a new chapter each month for your listening pleasure. Chapters are not all read by the same reader.
