Keeping The Smoking Lamp Lit Since 1989

December 2021

The Sherlock Holmes Pipe Club of Boston will hold its 2021 Holiday Meeting on Tuesday, December 7th at usual place but different meeting time (6:00 PM) since dinner will be served shortly thereafter.  A few people met up at Perkin's last month around 5 PM so let's do that again.

President's Message

Season’s Greetings,

Ahh, yes! That magical time of year When sugar plums, a good flake and a favorite briar become a staple for the season. Looking forward to another great year and hopefully we will continue to have our regular in person meetings as well as being able to travel about to visit some of our friends.

This year's feast will consist of a variety of pizzas, calzones and tossed salad from Catanzaro's Pizzaria.  Tom has put together some nice tobacco choices for our tobacco giveaway and pipe rafffle, and don't forget to bring a tin of tobacco for the Yankee Swap. We're going to have a great time so I hope you all can make it.

Finally, if the spirt moves you please bring a long a few extra dollars to pull some gifts from my honor box. As usual nothing will have a price tag on it, donate what you can. All proceeds will be donated to the family Tricia, and I sponsor.

See you next week,  Kevin

SHPC 2019 Holiday Extravaganza!!!

As usual, our holiday meeting will include some great events.  First will be our Yankee Swap.  All you need to participate is a gift-wrapped sealed tin (no Sutliff Private Stock, please).  It can be a great blend, a gag tin, or anything in between.  We'll go over the rules at the meeting, but it will be fun for all.

Next.  Every paid member gets to select a free tin of tobacco from an assortment of more than forty different blends.  We have everything from old favorites to lesser-known, rare, or discontinued tins.  Be sure to review the list and consider your first, second, and even your third choices.

Finally, we'll have our annual pipe raffle.  Tickets will be $10 each or a maximum $25 for three.  We have some fantastic prizes (Peterson, Owl Shop & Stanwell to name a few, See image for the complete group).  As a final note, none of this could happen without your continued support of our monthly tin raffles, as well as your generous prize donations.

Thanks to you all - Tom

The Christmas Pipe

It has become a tradition to put this audio clip up for the December edition of the SHPC Gazette. I hope you all enjoy listening to it again.
Jean Shepherd was a famous radio show host on WOR radio in New York. You may also recognize his voice as Ralphie's conscience in "The Christmas Story".  This is a great story about Ralphie getting an idea to buy his father a pipe for Christmas.   Listen

If you're a Sherlock Holmes fan you'll know that The Blue Carbuncle is the only Sherlock Holmes Adventure that takes place around the Christmas season.   Listen

Riverville Murder - Chapter 34 & 35

Grant motioned to Scott for an answer. “I think that PIRA contact is over,” Scott offered.  “Gus Malone, the Provo contact, is presently in Interpol’s hands, and Global Mortgage and Loan no longer exists. Callan has no interest in Ireland. He needs money to keep the gang going and for recruitment. Naturally, there might be others somewhere in the U.S. with a PIRA interest. I don’t know any.”

“That is certainly reasonable, Scott, and I’ll pass it up the ranks, “Guilford said. “I would like to hang in the fringes of this operation, as before, just to witness the finale.”

“Fine with me,” Scott said. “Be at my law office at eight o’clock tomorrow. We will be doing the final strategy for the arrests, which might occur that afternoon or evening.
