***** DON'T FORGET ****

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
From all the members of the Sherlock Holmes Pipe Club of Boston we wish all of you who follow our club activities a very happy holiday season, a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah. We also wish you all the possible joy and happiness you deserve in 2015 and beyond.

Here at SHPC I think we would all agree that December is our favorite month of the year for all things pipe. With our December holiday meeting coming up, the Kaywoodie holiday party right around the corner and the anticipation of what Santa might leave us under the tree this year (that is if he remembers, see more on that below), one can't help but get a little excited. To make the anticipation harder... I am fortunate enough to have the chore and honor of picking out the gifts we will raffle off at our holiday meetings each year and it's almost like a mini Christmas just for me when the package arrives and I get to open it up and see how everything looks. Unfortunately, the sad part is I can't keep it all. Fortunately however, the odds are not too bad that I may still bring home at least one of these great gifts. So here's what we have this year:

As we have done the past few years, all members that showed their support by coming to meetings and participating in the the tobacco raffle will get a free tin of tobacco. Instead of doing a lottery this year we asked members to pick a couple of tobaccos they would like to receive. This made my job much easier (it's so hard to pick out tobaccos you think everyone might like when there are so many) and I'm happy to say that all tobaccos requested were available.

This Year's Raffle
For this year's raffle we have some pretty nice gifts. Raffle tickets will be sold at $10 each or three for $25 (max purchase is 3). Not bad for what you might win. Here's what we have, which one do you want?

The 2015 Club Pipe
The 2015 club pipe will be made by Luca Di Piazza of Luciano Pipes. The candidates are in and will be revealed at the holiday meeting on December 2nd for a vote. What will it be??

The Spirit and Symbolism of Christmas

"I don't know how long I slept, but all of a sudden I knew that I wasn't alone. I opened my eyes, and you can imagine my surprise when I saw father Christmas himself standing next to my Christmas tree..... "

Pipes & Tobacco in the News
Have you heard? They want to ban the sale of ANY tobacco product in Westminister, MA. Are they nuts? Journalist Adrianna Cohen doesn't think a move like this is the smartest idea for local businesses. She says that if residents of West minister can't buy tobacco in their own town, they will just go somewhere else to buy it.

The Father of Santa Clause
It was the popular author Washington Irving (1783-1859) who gave Americans their first detailed "information" about the Dutch Saint Nicholas. Irving dedicates his satirical "history" to the New-York Historical Society, and makes dozens of references to an impish, pipe-smoking Saint Nicholas who brings gifts down chimneys.... Read more

It has become a tradition to put this audio clip up for the December edition of the SHPC Gazette. I hope you all enjoy listening to it again.
